Impact Training

The promise686/FaithBridge Impact Training is for Christian couples and families who have attended Promise686’s Discovery session and who are ready to take the next step in becoming foster parents or volunteers with us. Impact Training offers an intensive two-and-a-half day session designed to prepare you for the physical, emotional and spiritual demands of foster care. Using mini workshops, we touch on a variety of important topics, including welcoming a new foster child, managing discipline and nurturing your biological family. Through prayer, conversation and tabletop discussions, we help families examine their hearts in order to determine if they are called to foster. After Impact Training, families may complete their foster application and questionnaire and proceed to the home study process. Attendance at one of our Discovery sessions is a pre-requisite for participating in weekend Impact Training.

Impact Training — This training will be held at FaithBridge’s offices (in the Jackson Healthcare office building – Alpharetta)

Friday, September 24th 6:00PM to 10:00PM*

Parnership with Kid to Kid Consignment

When Maia and Dave Routly adopted 2 children from Ethiopia in April 2010 their family changed in more ways than they ever imagined. The twins Bren and Jace (9), Joel (7), and Bryce (5) were delighted with their new brothers Seth (4) and Zane (now 10 months). The undoubtedly busy life of a family of four suddenly became even more busy and hectic with six boys in the mix. The blessings and surprises that came with adopting children were too numerous to count. Maia describes their life this way, “Life is good. It’s busy. It’s fun.”

Prior to the adoption, Maia and Dave had connected with promise686 after hearing of potential grants available to adoptive/foster families. Their affiliation with promise686 also opened up opportunities for the family to meet other adoptive and foster care families, cultivating opportunities to share information, stories and advice on all things relating to adoption and/or foster care. The Routlys were also able to take advantage of a new program that promise686 recently introduced where vouchers are given to adoptive families to use at Kid to Kid Consignment which has stores located in Cumming and Duluth.

This creative program allows families to donate their gently used baby/ child furniture and/or clothing in the name of promise686. The credit is then issued by voucher to adopting and fostering families in need of essentials for their children. Michele Lockwood was instrumental in setting up the program with Kid to Kid for promise686.

The Routlys are thankful for the ways promise686 has been able to assist them with Seth and Zane. “It was nice to be able to go to Kid to Kid and pick out things I needed for the boys. It was an unexpected benefit that we really appreciated,” commented Maia.

Kid to Kid and promise686 would like to help more families with vouchers and are asking the community to donate in the name of promise686. “We need families who are willing to donate their items to Kid to Kid,” commented Amy Rider, Co-director of Promise686. “This is such a great service to our adoptive and foster families, and we are so thankful to Kid to Kid for giving us the opportunity to help families in this way,” she continued.

Kid to Kid has made donating very simple. Individuals may check out the guidelines at www.kidtokid.com. After donations are made, promise686 will provide a donation tax receipt and Kid to Kid will present contributors with $5.00 in kid bucks from Kid to Kid.

When asked what advice Maia would give to other adoptive families she said, “Work on waiting well. The adoption process is grueling. There is so much waiting. There is so much uncertainty, and yet God is moving. During these times, we tend to be anxious and emotional. Don’t get so caught up in being anxious that you miss what God is doing in the meantime.”
